How To Use Ultra Violet
We talked in a previous post about the 2018 Color Trends but now we’re going to cover how to use them!
First in this How-To series is Pantone 2018 Color of the Year Ultra Violet. Ultra Violet is an imaginative color that echoes the endless cosmos and conveys wonder and discovery. It is also a bold jewel-tone with strong blue undertones which can be difficult to figure out how to actually use this color.
No fear! We’re here to help you find the perfect spot for Ultra Violet.
Use it boldly in your home paired with dark green
Ultra Violet is not a quiet color – thankfully this has been the year of Maximalism, a style trend that is all about saturated colors and layers of texture. This New York home featured in House Beautiful does both with an un-apologetic violet wall and velvet forest-green couch.
Use many shades and switch up mediums
In addition to painting your walls, this color looks great translated into different mediums. This bathroom tiling and the sheen on the tiles enhances the color and prevents it from being too heavy and dark.
Feed your hunger
We bet these macarons are out of this world – just like their magical Ultra Violet color.
Decorate in style
Here’s another choice: If you don’t want to fully commit to this complex color, bring it (temporarily) into your home with fresh flowers, like these hydrangea.
As is fitting with this counter-cultural color, swim against the tide of cars and pollution by riding an Ultra Violet bike. Ultra Violet is about imagination and creativity used to solve today’s biggest problem. Riding a bike might just be a major answer.
If in doubt, wear it!
Another great way to use this fantastical color without the commitment of painting or tiling your home is by wearing it! Major fashion houses like Gucci, Versace and Givenchy have featured Ultra Violet heavily in their Spring 2018 collection. Plus we like to take our fashion hints from the Queen who has deigned it worthy to don several times.
