Profound, timeless, authentic: the Sherwin-Williams Color of The Year
Announced just this past month, the Sherwin-Williams 2020 Color of The Year is Naval SW 6244. Every year, Sherwin-Williams designates a “Color of The Year” that they think not only summarizes the tone of the zeitgeist, but that also can help guide design trends in a specific way. Naval was picked from 45 other colors that Sherwin-Williams featured in their Colormix Forecast.
The Colormix Forecast 2020 curated five color collections that could both welcome and usher in a new decade. Embodying the idea of bringing your best self into the new decade, the five collections are Alive, Mantra, Play, Haven and Heart.
Naval comes from the Alive collection. Described as “being present and soaking up every moment,” this collection is well-paired with unique, handmade objects and furniture that demonstrate a sense of authenticity.
It is the perfect collection to surround the 2020 Color the Year – these colors help set the intentions of the new decade to return to a sense of home and authenticity. Naval itself is a bridge to the new decade. Naval’s Art Deco influence evokes the past while also maintaining an aspect of depth and mystery with which to enter the new decade.
We suggest pairing Naval with other colors from the Alive collection. Sleepy Blue SE 6225, Touch of Sand SW 9085 and Ripe Olive SW 6209 these colors create a down-to-earth palette, again reinforcing the return to authenticity, the engagement with nature, and the focus on handcrafted elements in the next decade of design.
Sherwin-Williams design experts put together a palette of colors that they think would go well with Naval. They suggest Midday SW 6695, Tarnished Trumpet SW 9026, and Kale Green SW 6460.
One project that you could take on this winter is to use Naval in your kitchen. Repaint your cabinets with Naval to completely transform your kitchen into a re-imagined art nouveau-inspired space. This deep blue color could make any cabinets look immediately timeless – without the hassle and added cost of buying new cabinets. Using Naval adds immediate value and depth. Pair the color with new burnished-gold door pulls and you’ve completely transformed your cabinets.
The possibilities for Naval are, just like the night-sky it reminds us of, endless. Whether you use it to freshen up your kitchen, or you want a complete overhaul in your bedroom, the 2020 Sherwin-Williams Color of The Year is sure to add depth and design to your home.
